Mission & Vision

To provide high quality performances and learning programs in English for native and non-native speakers in Sofia and throughout Bulgaria.

To be the premier provider of English language theater and arts workshops, classes, educational tours, theatrical performances in Bulgaria and to become a hub for English language creatives in Sofia.

In 2015 while living in London, Mark Modzelewski set up Torchlight Collective, a small independent theatre company dedicated to contemporary issues and international perspectives. Mark and Gabriela Tsonkova had just finished working on a collaborative project as part of their Master’s programs. They decided to continue their collaboration after graduation which became the first show for the new company at the Bread & Roses Theatre in Clapham. The show received excellent reviews, but consistent opportunities proved difficult in the saturated theater scene of London.

Jump ahead a bit to 2017 when Mark and his family were considering moving to Bulgaria. He began looking for employment in English language theaters, but found none. After moving to Sofia later that year, this was confirmed and he made plans to register an English language theater company. In August 2019 that dream became a reality as Theater Visions Foundation was registered as an NGO for public benefit. After two years of summer children’s theater performances, the company went on hiatus for a few years, but returned to active status in 2024.

Now THEATER ViSiONS is poised and ready to take a leading role in meeting the growing demand for English language cultural arts programming in Sofia and encouraging language learners, public speakers and aspiring actors to become more confident in their skills!

Caught between July Morning and the Fourth of July

As an American, the Fourth of July holds special meaning to our country as it marks the day back in 1776 that we declared our independence from Great Britain. It is usually commemorated with parades, lots of fireworks and, my personal favorite, backyard barbecues. Since moving to Bulgaria almost seven years ago, I’ve been introduced…

Sowing Theatrical Seeds

You may not know this about me (Mark), but gardening is one of my go-to stress relievers. Lately I’ve been spending too much time writing grant applications, submitting proposals, updating the website… you get the idea. Too much time in front of the computer. I enjoy the peace of working with plants. Even on this…

Emerging from Hibernation

In Bulgaria soon we will come face to face with old Baba Marta. Childrens faces will light up when they receive their martenitsi and wishes for good health will be exchanged. People will be on the lookout for the first stork or first swallow returning or the first tree in bloom This is when the…
